Pedagogy and teaching
For over 20 years, Anna Petron has taught music in a variety of settings, working with a wide range of students. Her desire to share the love of beauty and the pursuit of musical discovery has fueled her passion for pedagogy.
Anna is a dedicated teacher, working equally with young beginners and established musicians in the professional musical landscape. Her experience and talent have made her a prominent figure in the world of music education.
She has developed a personalized teaching approach tailored to each student, focusing on listening, technique, and sound quality. Anna helps her students discover the resources within themselves for healthy technique and active, independent practice.
“Every lesson with Anna is a true transformation. She brings intense musical energy and, through her attentive listening, always finds the right words to help her students progress.”
Anna’s commitment to teaching goes beyond traditional lessons. She incorporates cultural and historical contexts into her sessions, helping her students understand the background of the pieces they play. This broader perspective cultivates a deeper appreciation for music and inspires students to explore different genres and eras.
Her teaching emphasizes a solid technical foundation combined with a strong focus on musical expression. She provides tools to improve fluency and precision at the keyboard while emphasizing the importance of playing with emotion and staying true to the intention of the music. Her method includes targeted exercises for dexterity and in-depth discussions on interpretation, enabling students to bring the music to life.
“Anna Petron approaches piano teaching with a profound understanding of the importance of personalization, patience, and passion. She firmly believes that every student possesses unique potential that deserves a method tailored to their individual needs.”
Anna encourages thoughtful practice over long, aimless hours of repetition. She guides her students in structured practice sessions, teaching them how to identify challenges, work effectively on difficult passages, and assess their own progress. She also organizes regular performance opportunities to build self-confidence and stage skills, essential for any musician.
Recognizing the importance of mental and physical well-being in piano study, Anna incorporates relaxation techniques and stress management strategies into her lessons. She addresses musician health seriously, teaching methods to avoid practice-related injuries and maintain a balanced approach to musical studies.
Founded by Anna Petron, the Gustave Fayet Musical Residencies took place between 2015 and 2020 at the Abbey of Fontfroide. In this unique setting, these intensive programs provided an opportunity for participants to surpass themselves in a focused, immersive environment. For this project, Anna assembled a dynamic and diverse teaching team, including clarinetist Pierre Génisson. The Abbey of Fontfroide, with its inspiring atmosphere and peaceful surroundings, served as the ideal backdrop for these intensive musical sessions. Residents participated in masterclasses, individual coaching sessions, and recital performances during their stay.
These residencies enriched the careers of participating artists and invigorated the cultural life of the region. Public concerts and community engagement transformed the abbey into a vibrant hub of classical music, leaving an indelible mark on all who participated or attended.
The Gustave Fayet Musical Residencies remain a shining example of what innovative pedagogy and a passion for music can achieve. Inspired by this success, Anna launched a new program in 2024, Le Stage Autrement (see dedicated section), open to all and embodying the same spirit.
Anna Pétron also teaches students of all levels at institutions such as the Atelier Musical Paris Seine. Here, her students benefit from learning and performing in a group setting. This unique pedagogical approach offers students the chance to enjoy music collaboratively from their very first year, unlike traditional music schools. These group sessions encourage musical collaboration, enriching their learning experience. Anna’s adaptive teaching combines technical rigor with creative freedom, with special attention to welcoming individuals with disabilities, ensuring music is accessible to everyone.
Additionally, Anna teaches at the Association Loisirs Émile Zola in Arcueil, which caters to adult amateur musicians. Her personalized approach encourages each student to reach their full potential, develop their repertoire, and perform in public.
